February Calendar has been posted under "Schedule" March Calendar has been posted under "Schedule" Conditioning on Tuesday 2/2/21 has been CANCELLED due to 100% chance of RAIN IMPORTANT UPDATED INFORMATION as of 1/28/21 (Email sent to parents) Parents/Players Hello once again! Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this trying time. I truly appreciate your interest for these girls. This is an important email, so please read. There are a few ACTION ITEMS (in red) with the information I'm going to give you. I'm thrilled to be able to say, "WE GET TO RESTART" again! However, there are some tidbits you'll need to decide as a family if you want to pursue tennis this season. So here I go... 1. Girls Tennis will be from Feb. 2 - March 27. (Boys will start March 29, so March 27 is our final day no matter what). We will start Tuesday Feb. 2 returning to conditioning. Next week, (weather permitting), we will meet Tuesday through Friday. 2. All Bella Vista Athletes will have to choose ONE SPORT ONLY. Unfortunately, this is due to state COVID guidelines. All athletes will need to remain in one cohort at this time. Update: Girls may play ONE CLUB SPORT and ONE HS TEAM SPORT (CIF change on 2/9/21) 3. We will hold our "tryouts" the week of Feb. 8, followed by practice the following week of Feb. 15 (Yes, I know that is President's Week for BV), but we will have practices. ACTION ITEM NEEDED: If you are planning on being away with family that week, I need to be aware of it before Feb. 15. If you're going to be in town, make this a priority. We are limited on time. I will post the tryout schedule on our website early next week. I'll have "new" players attend the first day of tryouts. 4. Matches begin Feb. 23. That's why I need to have tryouts the week of Feb. 8. I will hand out the schedule to all the girls who make the team. 5. I will post the season's matches on the website. ACTION ITEM: Please look that over. Matches will be Tuesdays, and Thursdays, some weeks - Tuesdays - Thursdays. If we need to make up any, we could do that on any day except Sunday. I will most likely plan them on our BYE weeks or on a Friday. Our district has not approved matches, however will assess week-by-week for competitions to be held. 6. Transportation will be the responsibility of parents. We do not have busses. I will need to know if a player will not be able to make a match 24 hours ahead of match time, so I can rearrange the ladder (lineup) for that match. 7. Donations for our expenses will be dropped to $100 this year per girl. The explanation of those expenses are in the handbook. 8. Parents and Girls will be responsible to read and sign the Player/Parent Handbook. I will be giving each girl a copy at tryouts. 9. Fundraising will be an option. 10. I will be taking 24-26 girls for this year's team due to these circumstances.. However, the Top 18 will most likely play the majority of the time. If an opposing team has an Exhibition Team, I will be trying to play as many players as possible. 11. ACTION ITEM: Please let Coach Lori know if you plan on playing another sport and have decided not to play tennis this season. A text is fine, but make sure you let me know who you are in your text. My number is 916-276-1987. 12. Masks will be worn while walking to the courts, checking in (temp. checks and health questions answered), while on the courts during conditioning, may be removed once players are playing points with opponents. Masks will be on by coaches and players during "team talks". Masks must be worn leaving the courts. 13. TEAM CAPTAINS (ACTION ITEM): If you applied to be a team captain, please be prepared to present yourself to the group on Friday, Feb. 12th. Captain selection will be announced on or before Monday, Feb. 22nd. The Girls Tennis Program is usually in the Fall, so I hope everyone will come out next year. The Bella Vista Girls and Boys Tennis Program is considering hosting a camp this summer for the community's youth (if at all possible). We will send out information about that at a later time. I'm sorry this season looks like this, but at least we are going to get the girls out playing!! Lastly, if you know your daughter will not be coming out for the team conditioning in 2021, please let me know and I will remove you from my email distribution list. Happy Holidays, Happy New Year and please stay healthy, safe and happy! Coach Lori Important UPDATE - Nov. 9 Parents and Girls Due to the upcoming restrictions again in Sac. Team Treasurer Needed - Is there a parent who would like to handle our finances working with the Coach Lori and Booster Club? Let Coach Lori know by email or text 916-276-1987. **Oct, 20 Update/Copy of Email** Please let me know if you did not receive the email as I am updating the family distribution list. Hello BV Girls Tennis Families, This has been a very different March-October but we are happy to announce the district and county have approved us to begin conditioning practices as long as we follow strict guidelines. Hopefully rackets and balls will be allowed soon, but we will take what we can get for now. 🙂 Important Dates: Preseason Conditioning/Practices (not mandatory) We will be starting on Tuesday, November 3 & 4 (not meeting on Friday, Nov. 6 this week). Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s. 3:15-4:15 through November, then until 5 pm starting in December. We may switch our Fridays to Thursdays later in our season. We are sharing the courts and season with the boys team, so we will not be practicing daily. Matches are Tuesday’s and Thursday’s for the girls. League begins Feb. 28, but we will start scrimmages about Feb. 8. I am scheduling a few now and will update you all as those dates are finalized. Tryouts (mandatory) start February 1st and will last all week. Unfortunately with the restrictions and added things we need to do at practices, we will not be carrying a large team this year. The team will consist of about 15 Varsity and 10-12 Junior Varsity (Exhibition) team members. I hope to return to the non-cut status next season. Rollingwood, Gold River and Miller Park have courts and pros who are offering clinics. Please ask if interested and I can guide you to those pros. Tell them you are practicing for the BV Girls Tennis Team. Some guidelines to follow for Conditioning Practices are listed below. Please make sure you discuss these as a family so everyone is aware. 🎾 Players should come straight from the parking lot to the tennis courts for temperature check and health question screening. No one with a fever or any other symptoms will be able to practice. 🎾 Everyone must maintain at least 6' distance at all times. 🎾 PLEASE do not congregate near the tennis shed, in the parking lot, etc 🎾 If players are waiting for rides after practice, please make sure they are not interacting with other students, etc. 🎾 Everyone must wear a mask to the courts and while walking back to the parking lot. 🎾 Practices are closed - only athletes and coaches are permitted to keep exposure to a minimum. Parents, please remain in your cars when dropping off or picking up. If you need to communicate with me, please text me and I’ll walk out to the parking lot or I can call you back after practice. 🎾 No equipment is allowed at this time, please only bring water and personal items that are necessary 🎾 Before coming to practice please register onSportsNet. SJUSD is allowing us to extend last year's physicals for another year so if your athlete was registered for BV sports last year they will be cleared again. If your student did not play a BV sport last year you will need a new physical or if you have one on a SJUSD form from middle school you may upload that for clearance. 🎾 Players must bring water and make sure they have eaten breakfast and/or lunch. 🎾 Restroom facilities are very limited at this time so "go" at home/school before you come to the courts. 🙂 We are excited to get together (in a socially distanced manner) and get moving! As you can see from the important dates above, things are still very fluid, but we hope to have some sort of normal season and will send out more info when it's available. Go Broncos! ** Please direct any interested players/families to the website. **Oct. 8 Update** If you missed the Oct. 8 Zoom Informational Meeting, contact me and I'll share the new link for Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7 pm. Click here to see the slides from today's Zoom call. Conditioning starts: Nov. 3rd (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Friday's: 3:15 - 4:15. No conditioning on Nov. 6th) Tryouts start: Dec. 7th (4 days) **September 30th Update** Zoom Informational Meeting for all interested players for the 20-21 "Modified" Season. Why: Conditioning Practices (no rackets or balls yet) can begin! We will have a modified schedule. We will be starting Nov. 3 and 4. When: Thursday, October 8th at 4 pm How: Zoom - Email Coach Lori for the code soon. *Make sure your name shows up on the participants. Unknown names will not be permitted in, so email now so I will be expecting you. * Complete the survey before Oct. 8th. * Any questions before, just email me at BVTennisGirls@gmail.com *Captain Selection* I will be bringing on two Seniors and two Juniors to be this year's Captain's. If you are interested in representing the team this year, running warm-ups, being present at all Varsity and Junior Varsity matches, have that school spirit, then I want you to apply! Please write up (under 200 words) why you think you should be selected as this "crazy" year's captain. What does it take for you to be a leader? Have those application essay's written by October 19th and emailed to Coach Lori by 5 pm. All applicants will present themselves to the players at our first November practice! ***August 13, 2020 UPDATE*** CIF has pushed back our season to begin in February. I am working on the possibility of getting out on the courts in a safe way prior to Feb. Stay tuned here and on our Instagram and Twitter accounts. Click here for the CIF - San Joaquin Section Announcement Boys and Girls tennis will be at the same time this year, so we are working diligently on what that will look like on the courts and for matches. Due to practice/court restrictions, we are currently looking at 15 Varsity and 10 JV players this year - a change from last year. Practice, practice, practice as much as you can safely! Email #1 to Girls, Parents and Guardians from Coach Lori. (Sent on 7/5/20)
Hello Girls and Parents/Guardians,
My name is Lori McDevitt, the new Head Coach for this year's Girls Tennis Team at Bella Vista High School. Ryan Kersting has agreed to remain our Assistant Coach. Great fun ahead!
Note: If you have decided not to play this season, let me know and I will remove you from the list, hopefully everyone is coming back! Also, if I missed removing you because of you graduating, shoot me a quick email and I will take care of it! Thank you!
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer during this crazy year! Another tennis season is fast approaching. As of now, our season starts Monday August 3rd. I hope everyone is out practicing and getting ready for the season....safely. We will be starting conditioning prior to that date. I'm just waiting on approval of my plan of action.
In order to participate in practice, players need to be COMPLETELY CLEARED by the Athletic Department. Fortunately due to the current situation, girls have an additional 30 days to have their physicals. We are working on a school-wide physical day, so stay tuned. Make sure you register on SportsNet, so I have an idea of who is coming out for the team.
Our team has a website: BVTennisGirls.com along with a Twitter and Instagram account as a way for our communication, as well as email. You can find that information for SportsNet on our website.
I'll send out more details hopefully next week! Looking forward to meeting you all!
